TEDHAK SITEN (PITONAN) Tedhak Siten or setting child's foot on the land or
usually called as pitonan. It is a ceremony when a child
set his foot for the first time, and held when the child
is seven month old. The ceremony initiated by a
procession of hadrah singers, and followed by rebana
striker, then the relatives carrying completeness of the
ceremony, that is a ladder made from "wulung" sugar
cane, chiken coop, various flowers, stationery and a
dish of yellow rice served in a cone shape. The child
and the mother guided by a shaman set his foot on seven
colours of Jadah (a kind of food made of rice)that is
red, black, white, yellow ( meands human desire or
passion ), pink ( means the unification of red and white
blood from the mother and father ), blue (means sky or
wind ), and purple (means a perfect life). Then the
child is guided to clim the leader, intended to have the
noble life. And after that, the child is it on jenang
blewah (a kind of cake made of sticky rice flour, palm
sugar, coconut milk, put in gourd and steamed). After
the ceremoniy, the child is bathed in a tank contained
various flowers, and then put into the chicken coop
white the ceremoniy completenees that will be chosen by
the child. At last, the ceremony is closed by eating "
rice with seven muzzle and folowed by entertainment.
